Very old logs

Hi

I have some logs that are so old they have started to rot - they are dry but starting to go powdery. What are the issues with burning these logs in my wood burning stove?

Answer

The problem with burning rotten logs is that they will not produce the same amount of heat and the length of burn time that solids logs provide. Besides that, there is no danger to burning these logs. It is really a question of whether or not it is worth your time to burn these logs. The answer to that question probably lies in the amount of rot in the logs and the other sources of firewood that you have at your disposal.

Hope this helps!
