Need some help with measuring a face cord

by Kyle
(CT, USA)

Hi,

This is my first time buying firewood as I recently moved into a home with a wood stove. I ordered a face cord to try things out, but I'm not sure that I got what I wanted. Can you tell me how large a face cord should be?

Thanks!

Answer

A face cord can actually be several different sizes, it all depends on how long the firewood pieces are cut. By definition, a face cord is 8 feet long, 4 feet tall, and one piece of firewood deep. So if the firewood is cut to 16" lengths, it is exactly one third of a normal cord.

For more clarification about the different ways that firewood is commonly measured, visit my firewood measurements page.

Best of luck to you with your new home and wood stove!
