Is a Globe Willow ok to use as firewood?

by Allen
(Spearman,Tx.)

A friend has one cut down and said I could have it. Is it ok to use as firewood?

Answer

Globe Willow can be used as firewood, but it is not an ideal species. Willows are rapidly growing trees and aren't dense like the best firewood species such as Oak. For that reason, you will find that Globe Willow will burn quickly and not throw off a lot of heat.

That being said, if it's free and you have access to it- go for it! Just realize that it's not the best firewood species. As always make sure that you season the wood before burning it.
