Can peach trees be used for fireplace wood ?

by Del
(Hutchinson,KS)

If I cut them now in late September, how long before I can burn them? Trunks are 5 inches in diameter.

Answer

Del,

Peach trees can be used for firewood. Like most nut and fruit trees, they have a pleasant aroma when burning.

If you were to cut them in September, they probably won't be properly seasoned in time for burning this winter. Drying time is variable based upon many factors, but the quicker you process and stack the wood, the quicker it will season.

Good Luck!
