Can I store seasoned firewood in my garage?

My firewood has been in a wood shed for a year. Recently I brought a bush cord in my garage so I don't have to work so hard. Now some of my wood is wet and won"t burn. Has moisture gone into the wood?

Answer

It's possible that the wood has gained some moisture, but it's unlikely that it happened in your garage. Do you have moisture or mold problems in the garage? If not, it's likely that the wood that you brought in was more wet to begin with than the wood that you had been burning.

This is a possibility if the wood that you had been burning was in an area of the wood shed that recieved more air and sun exposure. That wood would be more dry than firewood that may be deeper in the shed and therefore didn't get the same exposure. For that reason, the wood may not be fully seasoned.

Hopefully you can figure out the problem, good luck!
